The Jaipur district unit of Congress will meet on Saturday to chalk out the strategy for the nationwide ‘bandh’ against rising inflation. The opposition party has been trying to convince all major trade and business organisations to extend their support to the protest on September 10. “The price rise has been devastating for common man and local trade. The meeting will try to bring along trade and commerce bodies on the issue in state,” said Congress state spokesperson Pratap Singh Khachariyawas.
Congress has been persistently demonstrating against escalating prices of diesel and petrol. The Jaipur district Congress has held protest at all 91 wards of the city on Wednesday. On Thursday, Youth Congress clashed with police in attempt to demonstrate at state assembly on the issue.
The issue though has been a concern for peopel across the country, the opposition has been a little more aggressive to corner the state government keeping in view the assembly elections ahead this year. The call of party central leadership of a nationwide shut down has further added momentum to the efforts of state leaders.
Congress leaders have been been using all possible mediums from tele-calling, social media and personal contact to garner public support for the protest. Planning is also being done to hold series of protest meets at several locations in all the major cities.
No Celebrations
State Congress president Sachin Pilot abstained from celebrations on his birthday in view of the floods in Kerala. A large number of party workers and supporters had gathered at the party state office to congratulate him. However, Pilot requested them to refrain from celebrations. “The love and affection of public and supporters is all that one earns as public figure. I am grateful for all the well wishes, yet it’s not time to celebrate as our fellow citizens in Kerala are devastated by floods,” Pilot said. Congress president said that even as he is not a person to make resolutions on birthday, this year he has a target to fulfill party’s resolution to defeat BJP in upcoming assembly elections.
