To ward off any chance of electoral lists, being updated by the state election department for the upcoming assembly election, having names of ‘fake voters’, the Congress party high command has directed its cadres to scan voters lists and object to names which appear ‘suspicious’.

The party’s senior leaders in a recent meeting held at RPCC headquarters expressed doubts over alleged inclusion of certain voters in the lists by the BJP to improve its poll prospects. They suggested that workers and local leaders should minutely examine the list to spot any suspicious entry of voters in booth-wise list being prepared.

“The workers have been asked to scan the list and object if there is any fake entry. If there is any eligible voter being left out, the workers will also make efforts to include their names,” said a senior party leader. Recently, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sachin Pilot had expressed apprehensions over inclusion of fake entry while talking to scribes during a press conference.

On the other hand, with the state assembly election scheduled for December, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has released a detailed programme regarding preparation of voters’ list and mandated issuing of final electoral list on September 27 in a circular sent to the Chief Electorate Officer (CEO).

As per the schedule of the election programme, a pre-revision programme for drafting electoral rolls and arrangement of polling booths along with holding house-to-house surveys has already begun from May 15 and will end on June 20. If anyone has claims or objections regarding the draft rolls, then he or she could get it corrected between July 31 and August 20. The election body must dispose off claims or objections by September 20 and final lists will be made public on September 27.
