A member of legislative Assembly from the minority community became emotional while elaborating the relevance of cows in farmers’ families. In contrast to the cow vigilantism, Ameen Khan, Congress MLA from Sheo constituency, shared story of cow his family owned.

“It was like losing a mother when she died,”  he said while speaking during debate on governor’s address in the first session of 15th legislative assembly. The legislator came close to the ‘Gau Mata’ (cow mother) slogan of cow vigilantes, only to differ in the context. With his own example, Khan said that cow continues to hold respect in Muslim community in the country and that ‘a communal divide’ is being unnecessarily created by cow vigilantes. He also questioned the former BJP government for demolishing ‘Hindu’ temples.

Khan thanked the government for waiving the rider of educational qualification from local body elections and appreciated the governor’s address which reflected his party’s vision for inclusive development. While Congress MLAs hailed the governor’s address, it drew criticism of being ‘political’ and ‘vision-less’ from the opposition.

BJP MLA from Chomu, Ramlal Sharma, demanded more focus of the new government towards issues of public transport and road accident. As first time MLA, former mayor of Jaipur Ashok Lahoti had several objections with content of the address.

“The new government talks of Gandhian values but forgets to mention the cleanliness,” Lahoti said.

The BJP MLA from Sanganer constituency, Lahoti on various instances during his speech appreciated the former BJP chief minister Vasundhara Raje.

He like many other BJP MLAs were displeased with the criticism of Raje government’s policies. While the debate continued with harmony not all legislators shared the sentiment.

BJP MLA Madan Dilawar raised the issue of ‘Love Jihad’ ahead of media outside assembly after he was restrained from speaking on the issue inside the house.
