Rajasthan: Congress leader from Sawai Madhopur suspended by PCC

Action was taken against Luqman Ahmad after indiscipline surfaced during Mera Booth Mera Gaurav programme

Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) has suspended Luqman Ahmad, son of senior party leader Mumtaz Ahmad from Sawai Madhopur, from the party for the next six years. Luqman was slammed with a show cause notice by the party for indiscipline during Mera Booth Mera Gaurav program held in Sawai Madhopur on June 30. He was asked to reply within a week.

The sources informed that the state leadership was not happy with the arguments explained in the reply which led to his suspension. As per the order issued by the party, vice president Mumtaz Masis, Luqman’s primary membership has been revoked for six years. This is second action that the party leaders have taken on indiscipline surfaced during Mera Booth Mera Gaurav being held assembly-wise in the state. In Shahpura, when workers, leaders roughed up and tore clothes of party national spokesperson Sandeep Choudhary, the party acted and suspended few workers.

Though the party acted and issued notice on indiscipline, the ruckus created, fights, however, indiscipline continued in other editions of the programme held- be it Malpura, Civil Lines, Malviya Nagar. The program, which is a brain child of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, is aimed to bring together and connect workers, leaders, who have proved it to be a battle ground half a dozen times so far. 

Gross Indiscipline 

On June 30, in the presence of AICC general secretary and Rajasthan incharge Avinash Pandey, the supporters of Luqman Ahmad and Danish Abrar scuffled openly. Pandey, who was on mike to address the gathering, was in the state of panic witnessing the ruckus and he could speak for only three minutes. The supporters were throwing mikes, chairs and other items on each other. They even tried to throw air coolers. The state congress head Pilot took the incident seriously and called it ‘gross indiscipline’. He issued a notice to Luqman Ahmad seeking his reply on indiscipline within a week.
