After all the ups and down in the price of petrol in the city, it’s now costing about Rs2 per liter cheaper than what it was costing in January 18. On Tuesday, the rate of petrol was Rs 71.05 per liter and it has been in this range only with a difference of few paise since last few days. A year back, during the same duration, the rate of petrol was costing about Rs 73 per liter.

During the year, it went to the level of Rs 81 per liter in the month of August last year and therefore, in November, touched Rs 83 per liter due to the increase in crude oil price internationally. The state government reduced VAT on petrol and diesel from 30% to 26% to reduce the rates and thereafter, the Union government too reduced excise duty.

However, it’s been a year and the rate of petrol after all the changes in the tax structure and no significant difference in petrol price has been there over the year. After the drop in international prices, the price in Jaipur too had decreased a few weeks back, however, now there has been a marginal rise in price again.

However, most of the consumers are not very worried over the prices now and they have been taking the rise or fall as a normal economic phenomenon. As per the report issued by the department of finance of the financial position of first six months of this financial year, in case of petroleum department, the revenue received upto the second quarter of 2018-19 April to September 2018 stood at Rs 1820.70 crore compared to Rs 1,142.81 crore in the same period of 2017-18.
