Rajasthan: Bundi farmer dies of cold in his field

The cold and limp body of the farmer was recovered from the fields in the morning and was handed over to the family members after postmortem.

A 55-year-old farmer in Handiyakhedi village under Kapren police station in Bundi district allegedly died due to severe cold conditions while he was watering the crops in his agriculture field on Sunday morning. 

The cold and limp body of the farmer was recovered from the fields in the morning and was handed over to the family members after postmortem.

The man has been identified as Chitarlal Meghwal who is a farmer and resident of Handiyakhedi village said Vasudev Charan SHO at Kapren police station. The deceased farmer had gone to water the crops during early morning hours on Sunday but when his son reached the field later in the morning, he found his father lying unconscious with freezing cold body, Charan said. The son then rushed the man to government hospital at Kapren town where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead, the SHO said.

On the report by the deceased farmer’s son, a case under section 174 of CrPC was lodged while the cops  are further investigating  the matter.

The actual reason of death would be clear only after the the postmortem report is received but according to family members, the deceased farmer had early morning gone to water the crops in the field where he was hit by severe cold wave and collapsed dead, the SHO further said.

Notably, cold wave conditions across Hadouti region have intensified during the night and early morning hours since Friday night following a brief spell of rise in maximum and minimum temperatures.  

Earlier last week, shivering cold allegedly claimed life of two farmers in Jhalawar and Baran districts of Hadouti where 55 year old farmer, identified as Mohanlal Lodha, a resident of Govindpur under Jhalrapatan police station of Jhalawar police station was on December 29 morning found dead in his agriculture field while 26 year old farmer Shivpal Sahariya of Vijaypur village under Kishanganj police station of Baran district was on the same day morning found dead in his agriculture field.

In December last, cold had allegedly claimed life of two farmers in Jhalawar and Baran district of Hadouti as the region was hit by the persistent cold wave. They were identified as Mohanlal Lodha and Shivpal Sahariya.
