The State Election Commission has released the results of Panchayat and local body by-elections held recently.

In the by-elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was the choice of the people in rural areas. On the other hand, the people made a distance from the BJP in the cities where the vote percentage of Congress has seen a rise.
The by-elections were held on June 12 on 18 seats of Panchayat Samities, 9 seats of Municipality and City Council and 1 seat of District Council. Out of these, Congress won the only seat under District Council.

In civic bodies’ elections, Congress bagged 5 seats followed by BJP with 2 and NCP with 1 seat while 1 seat went to an Independent candidate.

In the Panchayat elections, BJP remained at the top by grabbing 11 seats followed by Congress which got 5 seats and 1 seat went to an Independent candidate.

The elections did not take place in Chhipabarod of Baran district as the locals had boycotted the polls.

In the district of Jaisalmer, BJP won the by-elections of city council’s ward No 9. BJP’s Pravin Vyas defeated Vikas Vyas of the Congress by 332 votes.

This was just a by-election but the prestige of both the candidates was at stake. In Sawai Madhopur, Lokesh of Congress defeated BJP’s Kamal in the District Council by-elections of ward No 8.

On the other hand, in the Pushkar Municipality by-elections, BJP’s Pushkar Narayan Bhati defeated his fierce rival Dheeraj Jadam by 203 votes. Being an OBC candidate, Bhati also presented a strong contendership for the post of chairman in the upcoming municipal elections.

BJP state general secretary Bhajan Lal Sharma said that the people have once again showed faith in the party.

Meanwhile, PCC president Sachin Pilot said that urban voters have given their mandate against the BJP.
