The temple politics, it seems, will dominate the Rajasthan Assembly elections like it did during Gujarat and Karnataka Assembly elections. The BJP, on Friday, started its temple politics through 'Booth Maha Sampark Abhiyan'. This three-day campaign started from major temples across the state. BJP leaders offered prayers in temples and went on a door-to-door campaign to reach out to as many voters as possible. BJP leaders, including Union minister Prakash Javadekar, started their campaign from 15 different temples across Jaipur.

It may be noted here that temple has always been involved in BJP's political strategy. Congress, too tried to cash in on this trend and thus started temple politics in Gujarat and Karnataka Assembly elections. It did so with the aim of creating a dent in the majority vote bank. In the past one year, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has gone to different temples across the country and he had also visited temples in Rajasthan.

BJP leaders have also included temples in the party's election campaign in the Assembly elections to woo the majority vote bank.

BJP started state-level Booth Maha Sampark Abhiyan on Friday. State election in-charge and Union minister Prakash Javadekar launched the campaign from the famous Govind Devji Temple in Jaipur. Javadekar, accompanied by state party leaders, visited the temple and performed puja. He then interacted with voters in booth no. 105 and 108 of Hawa Mahal Assembly constituency.

Senior BJP leaders, MPs, ministers and MLAs also visited local temples first at different places across the state. After that, they knocked the doors of voters and urged them for their support.

The Initiative

BJP state spokesman Satish Poonia said that party workers will go door-to-door at every polling booth under Booth Maha Sampark Abhiyan. Information will be given about the welfare schemes of Central and state governments. About 2cr voters out of the 4cr of the state have benefited from various schemes of the BJP government in Raj.

The Reach

This campaign will run from November 2 to 5. Within 3 days, BJP workers will contact voters at 51k polling booths across Raj. BJP workers will also go to the voters’ house and they will give pamphlets, books etc related to the plans of the Central and the state governments and will appeal to the voters to vote for the party in the elections.
