What was supposed to be a big bank robbery resulted in a petty Rs 5,000 snatching.

Three men armed  barged into a bank in Khandela town of Sikar district on Thursday afternoonin the hope decamping with large of amount money.

The trio threatened to shoot the bank employees and a client who were present at the moment and made them hostage. However, the real problem arose when they could not open the bank vault.

Later, in frustration, the ‘bank robbers’ snatched Rs 5,000 from the three men and fled from the spot. Interestingly, the men claimed to be from Haryana.

However, the cops suspect it was to mislead the cops. Notably, there were approximately Rs 4 lakh in the vault.  However the men could not take even a single penny.

The incident occurred at Yes Bank branch located in Khandela.

“The Yes branch is in Kotdi Luharwas rural area on Udaipurwati road and there is not much amount kept at the bank. On Thursday around 3pm, three men – with their faces covered – reached the branch and immediately started threatening those present. One of them held a gun in his hand which he waved and issued death threats to the men present at that moment – the bank manager, cashier and a client,” said Ram Kishore, Station House Officer, Khandela police station.

One of the men then overpowered the cashier and demanded that he hand over the key to the vault.

“The cashier declined having the key however the men slapped him a few times and took the key. While two men stood guard over the three men now made hostage, one of them tried to open the vault but failed. When on repeated attempts neither of the men could open the vault, they gave up and rounded the three men instead. The men were forced into the washroom and cash was taken from them. The men even took ATM card from their hostages and asked for the ATM PIN however the men gave wrong PINs and the trio then fled from the spot,” the SHO said.

Interestingly, the miscreants were asking for POS machine as well to take out money in front of the hostages.

“Eye witnesses have informed that the miscreants came on a red bike on which they returned after failing to start one bike belonging to a bank employee. We have recovered CCTV footage wherein the three men are seen. They are also seen beating the hostages and asking them to lie on the ground. A case has been registered and further action in the matter is being taken,” Ram Kishore said.
