Sharing a post on WhatsApp to promote a candidate contesting Rajasthan assembly election may land you into legal trouble. A returning officer posted in Barmer city has issued a notice to an admin of WhatsApp group where an appeal  was made to vote for a particular  candidate in the group without approval.

A certificate is mandatory from the MCMC (Media Certification and Monitoring Committee ) formed at state and district levels for anyone who seeks and drafts advertisement appealing in favour of any candidate. In a group named after a vernacular paper its members - Rahul Bamania and Lunkaranasar Bothara, - had shared a posts with text and images relating to nomination road show of a candidate.

With the posts an appeal was made to the members to vote for him as well. This act violates the codes set for the social media and therefore Barmer city returning officer Neeraj Mishra has shot a notice to the group admin Hitesh Tanwar. In the notice, the officer has asked the admin’s whether he got certification on the posts from the district MCMC committee, or not. A copy of the certification has been sought in the notice, which if he fails to do so will invite legal actions.

“If a certification has been issued then its copy with a written statement must be produced till 11am on November 22. If it is not done then action will be taken against you as per the People Representation
Act,” said the officer.
