Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2018: Sachin Pilot to contest from Tonk, Ashok Gehlot from Sardarpura

First list features names of 152 candidates

The much-awaited list of Congress candidates for the Rajasthan Assembly elections was finally released late on Thursday night in New Delhi. PCC chief Sachin Pilot will be contesting his first Assembly election from Tonk Assembly constituency which is dominated by Muslims and Gurjars, the caste to which he belongs to. 

Apart from Pilot, Leader of Opposition Rameshwar Dudi from Nokha and AICC general secretary and former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot from Sardarpura also figure in the list. Former union minister CP Joshi, who was wanting to fight Lok Sabha polls, has been given a ticket from Nathdwara constituency.

The first list features names of 152 candidates. Earlier on the day the Central Election Committee (CEC) headed by party president Rahul Gandhi deliberated the list in three rounds in the presence of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. There were discontent on a few names hence candidates in 48 seats have been held up.

The party has given tickets to maximum number of heavyweight leaders.

Pilot has who has been given ticket from Tonk which is dominated by Gurjars and Muslims. A couple of weeks back, Pilot along with his family had gone to Devdham Jaipuria, a shrine of Gurjars community, and paid offerings there. Since his visit speculations were rife that he has chosen his the seat.

The party has declared Rajkumar Sharma from Nawalgarh, Ramesh Meena from Sapotara, Danish Abrar from Sawai Madhopur, Harish Choudhary from Baytu, Girija Vyas from Udaipur, Bharat Singh from Sangod, Ajmer MP Raghu Sharma from Kekdi, Shakuntala Rawat from Bansur and Parsadi Lal Meena from Lalsot. The Congress has fielded Habib Ur Rehman from Nagaur who was denied a ticket by the BJP and who joined Congress on Wednesday.

Divya Maderna, daughter of Mahipal Maderna, has got ticket from Osian which her father represented. The Congress has also fielded sportsperson Krishna Punia from Sadulpur seat.

Heavyweights In Fray

Sachin Pilot will be contesting from Tonk seat while former chief minister Ashok Gehlot will be contesting again from Sardarpura. Former PCC president CP Joshi will be fighting from Nathdwara while Leader of Opposition Rameshwar Dudi will be contesting from Nokha. Sitting Ajmer MP Raghu Sharma will be fighting Assembly election from Kekri while Dausa MP Harish Meena who joined Congress on Wednesday has been given ticket from Deoli.
