Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2018: Sachin Pilot goes with the grain, literally in Tonk

At a motel near the highway, supporters of Congress candidate from Tonk Sachin Pilot were waiting for him to start his day of campaigning on Wednesday morning. The local leaders have already crowded the hall of this building, which is just on side of the highway when Pilot gets down and there are slogans of Sachin Pilot Zindabad. 

With a long day of meetings and campaign ahead, he quickly moves to Anaj Mandi in Tonk where the traders and the labourers were waiting for him. As soon as he arrives, the excited Congress workers and people working in the Anaj Mandi were seen pushing each other to get a glimpse of the young leader. Pilot appears cool and calm and first pays his obeisance to Veer Tejaji temple and Shiv temple situated in the mandi.

The management of the mandi welcomed him and one of the speakers, while highlighting some of the demands of mandi, assured Pilot that once he comes back after winning the election, they will put forth their problems. Pilot, while speaking immediately asked the traders if they would declare a holiday on election day and when the traders accepted this there were claps all around with labourers feeling happy.

He assured the people that he will be resolving the issues of the mandi and the farming community. The mandi officials than weighed Pilot in guava which has just started arriving in Tonk and after that he left for his next place. “With Pilot coming to power, our life and business should grow like that only,” said a trader.

Meanwhile, the Tonk city is all coloured with flags of both Congress and the BJP. While Pilot is being supported by local leaders of Tonk and Congress senior leader Namonarayan Meena, for BJP candidate Yunus Khan, chief minister Vasundhara Raje held a mega roadshow on Tuesday which was an instant hit. Wednesday was the last day of campaigning and now the stress of both candidates will be the door-to-door campaign.
