The district of Jhunjhunu is known for works in women empowerment and ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign. Over the last three years, Jhunjhunu has taken huge strides in this direction, which has been praised all over the country. In the assembly elections too, Jhunjhunu’s women employees are going to create history this time.

This is for the first time that one-third of the poll staff deployed at the polling booths in Jhunjhunu are women. Earlier, women were not even considered for the election work anywhere in the state.

Jhunjhunu District Collector Dinesh Kumar Yadav has decided that duty of women personnel should be assigned not only at all polling stations in urban areas, but also at polling stations located in big towns falling under the rural areas. In addition, the responsibility of security will also be in the hands of women. Facilities at these centers are also being expanded for the convenience of women personnel.

Yadav also pointed out that this is a matter of pride for the district of Jhunjhunu. It is also a proof of the changing trend that the percentage of women’s workforce is more than the percentage of men in the government services of the district.

The collector said about 12,000 workers are required for handling 1,770 polling stations in the district. But, in Jhunjhunu, there are currently only 8,000 such men who can be assigned the duty in the upcoming assembly elections.

Therefore, around 4,000 women workers are being deployed for the first time in these polls, he said.

The Election Commission has also instructed to set up a women polling station in every assembly this time, keeping in mind the changing trend. But, in Jhunjhunu, it is being done more extensively. If the situation calls for an experienced hand, then one or two male personnel can be appointed as a member of the polling party at a booth. “They will be able to handle polling booths on their own,” he said. The administration hopes the move will help bring out more women voters to vote in the assembly elections this time around.
