Though the Congress has nominated 40 leaders as star campaigners for the ensuing Rajasthan Assembly election, demand for former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and PCC chief Sachin Pilot has suppressed the rest. Even the candidates are requesting the party high command to approve rallies of only Pilot and Gehlot in their constituencies along with that of Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.

After the release of candidates list both the leaders are flying to constituencies on choppers and on an average are addressing a dozen rallies together. The craze for both the leaders could be witnessed from the fact that as their choppers land, the gathering starts waving hysterically at them.

Clicking selfie with the leaders and sharing it on social media has become a phenomena. Gehlot on Tuesday addressed six rallies in Jodhpur, Nagaur, Jhunjhunu, Dausa and Jaipur while Pilot campaigned in tribal districts of Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur and Banswara.

This charismatic appeal is completely missing in other leaders who were even appointed as star campaigners. Even AICC general secretary Avinash Pandey, CEC (Central Election Committee) incharge secretary Mukul Vasnik, national spokesperson Pawan Kheda along with four secretaries incharge are camping in the state, but hardly are they campaigning as candidates just wish for presence of Gehlot and Pilot.

The lack of enthusiasm for other campaigners can be judged from the fact that Congress senior leader Anand Sharma was recently in Jaipur but his rally in one of smallest parks of the city seeking votes for Kishanpole candidate Aminuddin Kagzi was a lacklustre affair.

The party sources said that both Gehlot and Pilot, being local, good orators and CM post contenders, appeal to the people directly while others lack oratory and knowledge of local issues. Hence, candidates are forwarding requests to the party headquarters to approve rallies, road shows by the duo in their areas.

A couple of days back the party high command had released list of 40 start campaigners including Gujarat MLA Alpesh Thakor, an OBC quota stir leader, Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu. Congress president Rahul Gandhi, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, ex- Prime minister Manmohan Singh along with Gehlot and Pilot were made the star campaigners as well.

Rahul Gandhi kicked off poll campaign post to the candidates announcement and held rallies in Jalore, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer in a day on Monday after visiting to Dargah Sharif and Brahma temple. He would be continuing campaigning to the desert state.
