Aam Admi Party (APP) candidate from Kota North is set to play a spoilsport for both the mainstream parties, as he is likely to wean away minority voters both from Congress and ruling BJP. The constituency is currently represented in Sate assembly by BJP’s firebrand MLA Phralad Gunjal, who is claiming a ticket from the again. He is likely to face his archrival and ex-home minister Shanti Dhariwal who could contest the seat from the Congress.

There are more than 2 lakh voters comprising 1,15,356 male and 1,06,809 female voters in Kota North state assembly constituency. Of the total 2.35 lakh voters, around 65,000 belong to the minority community and about 40,000 are from reserved category.  However, APP has fielded Mohammad Hussain as its candidate from Kota North disrupting the equations for both parties, particularly the Congress. The minority community has so far been traditionally voting for the Congress. With AAP fielding a cause damage to Congress benefitting BJP.

‘We are focusing on communicating and convince minority voters the agenda of APP and how the model of good governance of Delhi is going to work out for us in a city like Kota, which is a education hub,” Mohammad Hussain told DNA. The minority voters, who constitute a major part of the electorate in Kota North, always decide the fate of the candidate from this seat.

In such a scenario, the fielding of Hussain by AAP is being considered a game-changer in Kota’s political landscape. APP is contesting state assembly polls by its Delhi rulebook which the party claims to have tweaked to accommodate the local issues.
