Traders observed a market shutdown in Jaipur and several parts of the state in solidarity with the 40 CRPF martyrs and their bereaved families. Residents and institutions came forth, on Saturday, in solidarity for martyrs of Pulwama attack. The public demanded action against terrorists and their ‘patron’ Pakistan, the support for their families was nothing short of overwhelming.

“As terror challenges peace, traders and common citizens stand with the armed forces of country. The shutdown was a reflection of our solidarity,” said Arun Agarwal senior vice president, Federation of Rajasthan Trade and Industries (FORTI). “In gratitude of the martyrs, FORTI will extend support for education and employment of children of the martyrs,” Agarwal added.

The half-day shutdown, was invoked by several trade organisations including Chamber of commerce and industry, FORTI and Jaipur traders federation. Many of these traders opened up the institutions only after paying homage at a memorial meeting held at Chamber of Commerce in Jaipur on Saturday afternoon.

While markets remained closed, streets of the city were chock-a-block with several groups expressing their anger at the terror attack. This included the Jaipur Bar Association, North Western Railway employees, student organisations and several citizen groups. Some burned effigies, some held candle marches and even individuals rose to extend their support on the occasion.

“At an individual level, I have decided to bear all educational expenses of 2 children of Pulwama martyrs,” said Additional Solicitor General from Rajasthan Raj Deepak Rastogi. “This is the least we can do for the bravehearts,” he said.

Similar assurances were also expressed by several individuals and public figures to reflect on the ‘cowardly act’ of terrorists that has only further bonded the citizens. The incident of Pulwama has struck a rage so deep in hearts of citizens that they took to the streets to hold demonstrations in several cities of the state.

Among the martyrs were also five bravehearts of the state and the peaceful marches had people raging for a decisive action against terrorist organisations and nations backing them.
