On the other hand, Ajay Choudhary and his gang had selected two targets – Manoj Swami and Pradeep Gill, a sworn enemy of Rampal- Ajay’s gang member. “Ajay Choudhary was regularly tracking Manoj Swami’s location on that night and knew that he was at a friend’s farmhouse. As he learnt that Manoj has moved from the farm, he immediately also left towards the area in the hope of shooting Manoj Swami. While on the way they were signalled to stop by the cops – dressed as civilians - and the gang thought it was Manoj Swami and realised it was a good time to attack,” the IG informed.

Ajay was the first to open fire and immediately his gang members also started firing. “SHO Mukesh Kanungo and Constable Ramprakash were hit in the firing and as the police also retaliated, Ajay’s driver – Amir – thought that he has also got hit and did not drive the car. Another gang member drove the car, however, due to panic created in the exchange of fire the car overturned. Ajay and Lara then reached Fatehpur while the remaining men fled from the spot,” the IG informed.

An investigation into the matter revealed important leads and ATS officials Bajrang Singh (ASP) and Inspector Kamran Khan left Jaipur on the night of October 12 around 7 PM. They drove continuously for twelve hours and reached Pune the next day where they identified the miscreants with the help of Pune police. “The suspected men were informed to have been seen at Pune station and taxi drivers, shopkeepers etc close to the men were questioned who informed of their hiding places. Raids were conducted and Rampal and two men – Vibhor and Moni – were detained. They gave important information about Ajay and Jagdeep Dhankad. A few hours later, the team was on the way to Mumbai where the trio was handed to Jhunjhunu police that had already reached Mumbai,” the IG said.

Thereafter, the Rajasthan police team took help from Mumbai ATS team and found the men at Dadar police station. “They were detained and it was learned that they were looking to flee to Nepal. Jagdeep had got injured and was treated in Pune. After they fled from Rajasthan, Ajay took part in his friend Vibhor’s birthday celebrations on October 9. Vibhor and Moni both knew about the Fatehpur incident from Ajay. They stayed in temples during the day. Vibhor and Moni dropped Ajay and Jaideep at the railway station on October 13. Vibhor has studied with Ajay in Faridabad and are very close,” officials said. Meanwhile, the police will now interrogate the men further in the matter.
