The state Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has for long been nabbing khaki-clad men from Rajasthan. However, on Monday morning, the bureau sleuths conducted a rare trap, one where the arrested policemen are not from Rajasthan but part of the Andhra Pradesh police. Moreover, the men were nabbed with eighty thousand rupees cash, an amount which they took from a dacoity accused in lieu of removing his case from the case. The accused have been identified as Inspector R.V. R.K Choudhary, Sub Inspector S.K. Sharif, Sub-Inspector Gopal Rao and Constable S. Hariprasad.

The arrest was made after meticulous planning by bureau sleuths and resulted on the trap of one Inspector, two sub-inspectors and one constable. “A dacoity had occurred in Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh in which gold had been looted. Though the main accused was arrested, he confessed to the police that he had to pay around 1.20 lakh rupees to a person from whom he had taken a loan. This money was secured from selling gold from the dacoity.

The person who got the money gave that 1.20 lakh to one Ramniwas - a native of Barna in Bilara tehsil of Jodhpur - who wanted to start a business with the money with a friend,” officials said.

However, this became the bone of contention. “The four cops of Andhra Police approached Ramniwas and threatened him of his name being listed in the case. On November 3, they took Ramniwas with them and kept him with themselves. The man was threatened of being put behind bars in the case and to save himself he would have to cough up 1.40 lakh rupees. Ramniwas was let go for sometime on November 4 but not before they asked him to deposit twenty thousand rupees in an account for them,” said V K Singh, IG - ACB.

The men however again pestered for easy money. “However, Ramniwas approached the ACB and registered a complaint. A bid to verify the same was initiated and on 5th November, the four cops took forty thousand rupees, thus verifying their demand while the remaining amount was to be handed on Monday,” the IG informed.

“The men were staying at one Shiv Shakti hotel at Boranada in Jodhpur where they called Ramniwas with money. The man handed the money and signalled the team headed by deputy SP Jagdish Soni which immediately raided the place. The cash that was handed was recovered from between the bed and mattress while the cash handed during verification was also recovered. Thus, the men were arrested,” the official said.
