Raj gets 50% of season’s total rainfall in July

30 of 31 dams in Sirohi over flowing, several crucial routes blocked due to heavy showers

A three-week monsoon spell since its official entry on July 1 has brought heavy showers drenching the entire desert state. Till now the state has already received 50 per cent rainfall of the total average rainfall forcast for the season. Normal rainfall for Rajasthan is 530.08mm for monsoon period while till date it has received 269.01mm.

72 major dams are filled at present while Bisalpur, major source of drinking water for Jaipur, is filled nearly 45 per cent. With heavy showers on Monday 30 out of 31 dams in Sirohi were over flowing. Several important routes namely Sirohi-Sheoganj, Sirohi-Reodar, Kotra to Swaroop Gunj via Mandawa and Kotra to Jhadol via Panrawa Road are blocked in the district. Raniwara (Jalore) and Sumerpur (Pali) received 388 and 230mm rainfall respectively in the past 24 hours.

On Monday, the monsoon covered almost entire state and there were 52 stations which received rainfall above 100mm. Meanwhile, 110 stations in the state received rainfall in the range of 50-100mm in the past 24 hours. With advancement of monsoon further mostly all regions across the state are receiving heavy downpour and nearly 351 stations received in the range of 0-50mm.

Heavy downpour lashed various areas in Jaipur on Monday making weather pleasant. On Sunday it received 28mm rainfall which is best of the season so far. Dark clouds hovered over the sky in the state capital since morning. As the day proceeded the city was blessed with spell of heavy rains, which resulted in waterlogging at some places and traffic jams.

On the other hand, there are five districts which are facing rain deficit. 

According to the data collected by the water resources department, Baran, Bundi, Dausa, Dholpur and Kota are having deficiency in minus 20-50 per cent compared to average rainfall.
