Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s tour to Rajasthan has been postponed in the wake of Lok Sabha monsoon session beginning from July 18. Gandhi was expected to tour Rajasthan in the second week of the month and it was being seen as the occasion to flag off the campaigning by the party for the assembly elections.

However, the monsoon session in the Lok Sabha beginning from July 18 has put brakes on the planned tour. The monsoon session would run till August 10. “Gandhi would be visiting Rajasthan any suitable day after July 18. The suitable days would be Saturday or Sunday when the parliament does not work,” said a senior party functionary informing about the development. It has been also learned that Gandhi would pay visit to famous temples and shrines during the tour. The names of temples proposed and under-consideration  are Shrinath Ji, Brahma Ji, Sanwaliya Seth, Govind Dev Ji. AICC general secretary (organisation) Ashok Gehlot during his recent visit to Jaipur had said that his tour is yet to be finalized.

The party leaders believe that the postponed visit of Rahul Gandhi will augur well for Congress. Prime minister Narendra Modi is coming to Jaipur on July 7, so Gandhi can launch a much stronger counter-attack.

“Rahul Gandhi’s tour to the state will be charted out in sync with his visit to MP and Chattisgarh, which are also slated to go for polls along with Rajasthan. Hence, temple visits will be planned in all the three states and not alone in Rajasthan,” said another top functionary of the party.
