Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds meet with chiefs of 3 armed forces at Jodhpur

It was for the first time in the history of Jodhpur that the chiefs of the three armed forces—Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy—were present together along with prime minister Narendra Modi, defence minister Nirmala Sitaraman, minister of state for defence Subhash Bhamre, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and host of military and civil personnel. 

The high powered gathering had occurred for the Combined Defence Commanders Conference held at the Jodhpur Air Force Station. The former Head Quarter of South-Western Air Command—Jodhpur Air Force Station—was chosen for the conference owing to its strategic importance due to its presence near Indo-Pak border. 

Important issues related to the security of the country and purchase of new weapons were discussed while senior officials informed the PM of their operational preparedness. It is also believed that geo-political issues were also discussed in the conference with emphasis on the neighbouring countries of India. Interestingly, for the third year the combined commanders conference has been held outside of Delhi. In 2016 it was held on INS Vikramaditya, Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier, while in 2017 it was held at Indian Military Academy at Dehradun.

Issues Discussed

It is also believed that geopolitical issues were also discussed with emphasis on the neighboring countries. It is for the consecutive third year that the combined commanders conference has been held outside of Delhi.
