The less demand for power these days all thanks to weather condition and less consumption of electricity in agriculture sector has led to less production of electricity.
Sources in Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) informed that currently many units of various power plants in the state are shut down in the current scenario. The current production of electricity is about 5,957 MW while production of about 2,000-2,500 MW electricity production has been shut down by RVUNL.
“The current production of electricity is 5,957.35 MW as demand of electricity is less these days,” informed an official of RVUNL.
Sources revealed that one unit each of Surtagarh and Kota power plant is working while 2 units of Chabbra are closed to avoid surplus electricity production.
Similarly, units of Kalsindh are also closed. Report issued by Central Electricity Authority on daily power generation showed that unit 1 and 2 were on reserve shutdown on July 4. Usually during the peak months of summer the government had to resort to buying electricity from exchange or other power companies.
This time since the weather is good, the officials are relaxed and are preparing for the upcoming agriculture season which is September onwards. That time there will be large demand of electricity in the state.
In peak summer months of May and June also the demand exceeds the supply, but officials informed that while peak summer months have passed and weather is pleasant, therefore, the demand is less. Moreover, the alternative sources of energy like wind energy and solar energy have also been contributing to the demand of electricity of consumers. As the monsoon will progress, its expected that demand will fall further.
