Looking at the critical condition of Coal reserves in different plants of the state, Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited ( RVUNL) has taken a call to tackle the issue. Officials in RVUNL informed that Coal India will be sending 12 rakes of coal for different plants of the state on Wednesday. AS Diwali is approaching ls the worsening power situation in the state is expected to improve within a week.

After a meeting between Chairman and Managing Director ( CMD) of RVUNL NK Kothari had with the officials of Coal India limited on Monday, officials informed that the all the official paperwork was completed on Tuesday and most probably today these rakes would leave from various mines to Rajasthan.

In fact, CMD’s of all power producing companies had met the Coal India Limited officials as part of review meeting on Monday. Officials hope that it will thereafter take 3-4 days for these rakes to reach the plants and thereafter the situation would start improving.

Currently, officials are trying their best to increase the coal stock of state-run power plants. Since the coal crisis has hit the entire country, the power from various other sources like NTPC and other plants is also less.

Currently, Suratgarh plant is having 6500 metric tones of coal while its consumption capacity per day is 20,000 metric tonnes. Kalisindh has stock of 10,000 metric tonnes while it needs 16000 metric tonnes of coal and Chhabra power plant is having stock of 24000 metric tonnes while it is consuming 14000 metric tones in a day.

This condition has led to shutting down of many units of these power plants which has reduced the generation. As such load shedding has been imposed in the state with 2 hours declared cut in municipality areas and district headquarter while 3 hours in rural areas. In the month of September, only about 7,00,000 metric tonnes of coal was received in the state.
