When in February Congress sealed its supremacy in Ajmer, Alwar and Mandalgarh bypolls, political pundits termed it as BJP’s loss in the semifinal in the run up to the Rajasthan assembly election slated in the year end. But that loss served as an alarming bell and the ruling party quickly regrouped to get its house in order. In just five months, BJP has been on its toes managing its organizational affairs, planning aggressively the election campaigns, and most importantly they have emerged as a strong united team, something that is amiss in the Opposition Congress.

A ‘split’ Congress just ahead of the election has them on the back foot as the echoes of dissonance refuse to die down. It was just a couple of days ago that senior party leaders like Lal Chand Kataria and Sanjay Bapna demanded declaring of former CM Ashok Gehlot as the CM candidate that was no less than an embarrassment for the party that has time and again dismissed the talks of fissures in the party as mere rumours. Moreover, the former CM Ashok Gehlot has also made statements indicating him to be ‘in the fray’ of being the CM face.

On the contrary, the BJP despite facing disagreement between the CM Vasundhara Raje and the party’s  central leadership over the appointment of BJP state president has now managed to bury the hatchet and the party now seems to be a very much a team where every leader is driven to achieve one common goal. The party now looks united under the leadership of Raje and newly appointed state BJP chief Madan Lal Saini.

The atmosphere in the BJP camp is bubbling with positivity and energy. First it was PM Narendra Modi who visited Rajasthan followed by party’s national chief Amit Shah sounding the poll bugle much before Congress. A confident Raje is scheduled to kick-off statewide ‘Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra’ on August 4.

Much credit for dexterously planning the yatra goes to the former state president Ashok Parnami and Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena- a tribal leader who left BJP owing to difference with Raje in 2008 and made Ghar Vapasi just a couple of months back,  who were also a part of the committee who drafted the plan. Raje is taking out the yatra for the first time while in office, as previously when she took out yatras in 2003 and 2013, she was in Opposition.

In the name of campaigning, the grand old party Congress has only Mera Booth Mera Gaurav (MBMG) to its credit and this too was marred by several infighting incidents where even senior leaders were seen roughing up each other in full public view. A few protests here and there where they took out rally against BJP over fuel prices and farm loan waiver drew attention, but they were followed up with nothing much.

QUICK STRIDES

In the name of campaigning, the grand old party Congress has only MBMG to its credit. While both Modi and Shah are expected to visit Rajasthan again, Congress has failed to schedule its party president Rahul Gandhi’s tour of Rajasthan.
