A four-year-old boy, allegedly kidnapped from Pedawa town of Jhalawar district, was rescued from a Jhalarapatan town, about 50 kilometres from his hometown, on Monday night. The police have arrested four youths in connection with the incident.
The accused had kidnapped the boy identified as Armaan when he was returning from school and demanded a ransom of Rs10 lakh.
According to Mansiram Vishnoi, sub-inspector at Pedawa police station, “The accused after kidnapping the boy made a phone call to his father and demanded Rs10 lakh for the release. When the father expressed inability to pay such a huge amount, they reduced the amount to Rs 5 lakh.”
However, the family members also lodged a report with the police, late on Monday evening after which a manhunt was immediately launched. The police then traced the culprits to a house in Jhalarapatan town, where the boy was held as captive, informed Vishnoi. The arrested youths have been identified as Aabid, Ashif Ali, Govind Mali, residents of Pedawa town and Burhan Kurashi, a resident of Jhalarapatan.
According to the police, the four accused youths, wanting to lead a flashy and luxurious life, hatched the abduction plan to get some ransom money, the SI said. He added that the accused, during primary interrogation said that they abducted the boy in hope to get huge money to fulfill their aspirations of a luxurious and flashy life. Two of the accused are the neighbours and distant relatives of the victim’s family, Vishnoi said. The accused were on Tuesday produced before the court.
