There is a unique competition going between states. They scramble for a visit of union minister for petroleum and skill development Dharmendra Pradhan. He never comes empty hand. Where ever he goes he doles out  development schemes and ensures job creation. Rajasthan has been lucky. In last 6 months, it’s his second visit to the state. Last time when he visited Rajasthan, he gifted Rs 43,000 crore refinery and petrochemical complex in Barmer, which was hanging fire since long.

This time he is in Jaipur to inaugurate conference of ONGC  Society of Petroleum Geophysicist. He will also be visiting Skill University in Mahindra SEZ - the first skill university of the country. Labour and Skill Development minister Dr Jaswant Singh Yadav, Chief Secretary Ashok Jain and Skill Commissioner Krishna Kunal will apprise him about various skill development programmes by the state government. Pradhan is likely to make some announcement which will give fillip to the skill sector of the state. His personal rapport and connectivity with chief minister Vasundhara Raje has made things easy for Rajasthan. The chief minister with her persuasive power is likely to pull more such projects from Pradhan, which can change the contours of this desert state.

Pradhan is considered a minister with ‘Midas Touch’ with extraordinary capability. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose him to man the most challenging petroleum ministry. People within the party doubted his decision. He was then considered ‘green horn’. But he overhauled the ministry. The ministry which frequented by only ‘suited corporate executives’ of MNCs and oil companies soon made way for common people. It became a junction for dreams of rural India realised. The Ujjwala Scheme, which changes the face of rural India by   empowering rural women with smokeless cooking options, was conceived in the narrow corridors of Shashtri Bhawan, which so far had just saw ferrying of files from one room to other. Pradhan’s Ujjwala Scheme of providing LPG connections to BPL families fired up the kitchens of over 3 crore rural households in just 18 months of its launch. Now the minister aims at giving away 8 crore LPG connections - 3 crore more than the target set while launching the scheme. And now he is going a step further by launching one lakh LPG Panchayat across the country to deal with the issue of safe use of LPG as well as its various benefits.

While Ujjwala won Uttar Pradesh for BJP, party is betting big on PM’s another flagship programme - Skilling India - to win back the country in 2019.

Then Pradhan has his hands full. Recently, he has roped in public sector units and corporates to explore the skill needs of industry and train manpower accordingly. He has also instructed his officials to identify skilled entrepreneurs who can play role model to aspiring people who bank on their individual skills to gain prosperity.
