Prime minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the Joint Military Commander Conference that is to be held on September 28 at Jodhpur Air Force Station. The day marks the eve of second anniversary of 2016’s surgical strikes against terror pods in Pakistani territory by Indian forces. Defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and the Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force along with the senior defence commanders will be present.

The country’s security challenges, current structure of the three services and how to make them modern and strengthen them is expected to be discussed.

The preparations for the Conference at Jodhpur Air Force Station have already begun. Though the agenda of the conference is classified, but it is expected that the prime minister will be sending a strategic message to the new government in Pakistan.

In this conference, defense strategy, operational preparations and policies of the three services will be discussed where the three Chiefs will be in open communication with the prime minister.

It is expected that the PM will make the officials aware about his government’s vision, policies and intentions. At the same time, the Commanders will openly discuss the strength and weakness of the forces. Apart from this it is expected that a future defence strategic policy could also be discussed prominently.

The choice of Jodhpur as a venue is also significant as it is a strategically-critical airbase and above all the area comes under the operational zone of the 21 Strike Corps which is tasked with making quick inroad into Pakistan.

In the past 47 years, the Air Force has strengthened the air security system on the western border so that it can now immediately responded to any kind of unwanted activities across the border. Indian Air Force has strengthened Jodhpur Air Base within the radius of 300 kms along with the Utarlai, Jaisalmer, Phalodi and Bikaner Air Base.

Importance of Jodhpur magnifies as it also houses Defence Laboratory, is the headquarter of Konark Corps of the Army and is strategically important having BSF headquarters.
