PM Narendra Modi assures action on Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project

In what can be termed as a major achievement for the state government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured chief minister Vasundhara Raje that positive action will be taken with regard to the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project.

While addressing the public meeting in Jaipur, the Prime Minister informed that the detailed project report (DPR) has been received by the ministry of water resources on the project. He said that technical examination of this project is being done and soon decision on this will be taken. Chief minister Vasundhara Raje has been trying hard to get national project status for this scheme.

During her address on Saturday, Raje had also mentioned about the benefits of the project and once again took up the project details. She requested the Prime Minister to give his blessings for this project.

Earlier, a few days ago when chief minister had visited Delhi, she had met union water resources minister Nitin Gadkari regarding getting approval for this project.

This project will provide drinking and irrigation water to 13 districts of the state and is an ambitious water project of the state government and is worth Rs 37,000 crores. Raje informed that after implementation of this project, state’s 40 per cent population will get facility of irrigation and drinking water. During the meeting with Raje, Gadkari was in agreement with this and said that soon a Cabinet note regarding this will be prepared for getting approval.

A few days back, Raje had also discussed this project during the fourth governing council meeting of NITI Aayog held in New Delhi which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Infact Raje has been trying to get this scheme implemented since long.  In her several previous meetings with the Union ministry, she has taken up the issue many times. The importance of this project can be measured from the fact that even governor Kalyan Singh took up the issue in the month of June in New Delhi.

The Importance

Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project once launched will meet water demand of 13 districts. State wants it to be given status of a National Project as it will then fetch Central assistance in terms of funds. With 2018 being election year, it will also be counted as a successful effort
