The security scanners at Jaipur airport worked with extra caution this Sankranti as four pistol cartridges were caught with a passenger late on Saturday evening, while, about 1.2 kilograms of gold was found in a parcel early Sunday morning.

The 50-year-old passenger, Jai Gopal Chauhan, was in city for a private meeting and was on his way to Lucknow.

“An FIR was launched under section 3/25 of Arms Act, and he was arrested on spot. He was then presented in court today, and the court ordered to keep him under judicial custody,” said Jaiprakash, sub inspector, Sanganer police station.

“He was alone and had come to Jaipur to attend a meeting. He was from Kanpur and his license belonged to Uttar Pradesh. This license was not valid in Rajasthan,” he added. “The cartridges were found in the handbag of the passenger who was leaving the city by Jet Airways,” informed a senior official of airport authority.

In addition to this,1.2kg gold was found in the Air Asia cargo luggage, the official said. “A parcel was booked for Bangalore through air cargo. The courier company had not informed that it includes any valuable item. The officials found the gold while scanning the parcel,” the official added.

The officials of the courier company, POBC Cargo, were present during the scanning and have been asked to produce relevant documents to prove the proprietorship of the said gold.

“The officials, when asked about the gold, claimed that they were not informed about it. The list of items mentioned by the owner did not include this,” Jaiprakash said. “The parcel belongs to someone in Jaipur. It has been taken into custody under section 102. Further investigation will take place after we receive complete information from the income tax and the sales tax department,” he added.
