People in city started flying kites early in the morning but as soon as the commuters took to the streets, the manjha spoiled the day for few of them along with birds

While the city celebrated Makar Sankranti by flying kites, the city police were keeping its eyes wide open to screen out those using banned Chinese manjha for kite flying. Taking action against such men, the cops arrested four individuals and recovered the manjha and other items from them. While the police arrested two men late on Sunday night in Vidhyadhar Nagar area for using Chinese manjha, on Monday too, the cops made arrests.

“Directions had been given to stop the storage, usage and sale of Chinese manjha in the area and to ensure that the people are not sold the manjha, we had formed several teams in each police district. The teams surveyed the area and made random raids at various places. In Jaipur North district, we found two men from Vidhyadhar Nagar area using the Chinese and metal coated manjha. The duo was identified as Mehardeen (48) and Mohammad Shahrukh (21). The duo is native of Churu and currently reside in Old Vidhyadhar Nagar,” officials said. Meanwhile, one more person identified as Yusuf Maniyaar (25) was also arrested and Chinese manjha was recovered from him as well.

“The trio has confessed that they had brought the manjha from Kotwali area of Churu city and after we learned of this, we immediately contacted the Churu police which conducted checking of the shop from where the manjha was purchased,” officials said.

Meanwhile, dozens of birds were injured and several of the injured birds died as well after coming in contact with the manjha. “We have made camps at various places to rescue birds injured by the manjha that have been open for the past few days. However, on Monday, we received the most rescue calls compared to other days. Till evening, we had received 250 calls and addressed them all. Even one rosy pelican fell victim to the manjha along with four kites and one parrot while rest all were pigeons. We are expecting more calls even towards the night as well,” said Rohit Gangwal of Rakhsha.
