Rural employment scheme MNREGA seems to be the focus of the Congress government in state which has assumed power in December last year.

On Thursday, deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot cracked the whip on officials to fast-track creation of jobs and works under the national rural employment guarantee scheme. In a slew of decisions taken over marathon meetings that last the entire day at the state secretariat, Pilot directed officials to increase the man days under MNREGA. He also instructed the officials to fix the delay in payment to the workers provided jobs under the scheme.

“The deputy CM directed the district collectors and chief executive officers to start a special drive for making job cards of the people who have not been able to get it done,” an official with the Panchayati Raj department said. “This drive will kick off between January 5 and 20,” he added. The decision was taken during back-to-back meetings of the departments of rural development and Panchayati Raj.

For making these camps successful, the chief executive officer and development officers will have to start touring the panchayats. “They shall be removing the anomalies related to job cards,” an official said. According to sources, Pilot said that the employment opportunities for skilled workers who are involved in inspection works should be made available. Pilot also directed the district collectors to give factual report on the sanctioned works in Mewat, Dang and Magra schemes.

The deputy chief minister was seen in action on Thursday. After reviewing the rural development and Panchayati raj development departments,  he went about reviewing the projects taken up by the Public Works Department (PWD). He stressed on quality work in construction carried out by the PWD.

This was his first meeting with the officials after taking charge of the departments. During the review, he went through the Vasundhara Raje’s pet project, the Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban scheme.

He directed that all pending works should be completed by March 31 and asked officials to ensure there is no delay in the payment to workers in MNREGA scheme. Pilot is in charge of 5 departments, including department of statistics.

‘Off To The Field’

Deputy CM Pilot directed additional chief secretary Rajeshwar Singh to form a team of officers at the head office, which would tour all the blocks in the state, meet the collectors and inspect the on-ground activity to ascertain the implementation of the sanctioned works. He said that if there is need, he would himself tour the divisions or districts where his presence is required.
