While the farmers agitated on roads and several have been arrested, Congress whip Govind Singh Dotasara raised the issue in the assembly on Thursday. He tried to corner the government on the issue and even compared the situation with the emergency in 1975. Interestingly, Dotasara claimed that emergency was imposed since it was the need of the hour. Briefly delving on the issue and as the BJP legislators booed him over his remarks, Dotasara returned to the farmers’ issue, however was aptly replied by the Home Minister.

Dotasara raised the issue through chit and remarked, “There are more than 2.5 crore farmers in Rajasthan and they have not got the right price for their crops due to which the farmers have lost over thirty two hundred crore rupees in one year. During Suraj Sankalp Yatra, the farmers were assured that various crops and produce would be brought under the purview of minimum support price, the Kissan Ayog would be strengthened and safety would be provided from wild animals.”

The Congress leader said that the farmers are agitating for complete loan waiver but  government  is forcing them into jails and baton charging them. Taking a dig at CM Raje’s comment on seeking apology for imposing emergency, he said, “Question was raised about imposing emergency during the Congress rule. Emergency was needed at the time and was important for country. But you have imposed unannounced emergency.”

He further questioned as to under which rule the farmers are being stopped and put behind bars for just trying to enter Jaipur for agitation.

Home Minister Gulab Chand Katariya replied to his concern and said, “it is true that everyone has a right to put their views in a democracy. But the High Court of Rajasthan has given interim orders saying that no kind of rally and agitation can be held in the Jaipur metropolitan area during a working day. However a few men moved the High Court to reconsider the order and on December 8, 2017, the HC gave a relief and said such rallies can be staged between 12 noon and 4pm.”
