To remember the sacrifice of the soldiers of Border Security Force (BSF), Half Marathon-2017 was organised on Sunday by BSF Rajasthan Frontier Headquarters in Jodhpur. The 21-km Half Marathon started from BSF’s Ashwini Stadium and ended after sprinters passed through various routes of the city before ending the run at the point of start. Simultaneously, a 5km fun run was also be organised for school children.
BSF Rajasthan Frontier Inspector General Anil Paliwal said that BSF is monitoring the 6.5 thousand kilometre long border from Pakistan. So far, more than 1852 soldiers have been martyred. The marathon started at 6 in the morning and covered areas like Paota Circle, Circuit House , Bhati Circle, Ratanada Circle, Panch Batti, New Residency Circle, Senapati Bhawan, Bhati Circle and return to the Ashwini Stadium. Moreover, the 5km fun run started from Gate Number 2 of the stadium and took the route of Kishor Bagh, Krishi Mandi before coming back to the stadium.
With intent to strengthen the spirit of unity and patriotism, 10 winners were awarded cash prizes. Jagamal Singh of BSF bagged first prize, Jethusingh second and Sajjan Singh stood third in the men’s category in the Half Marathon. In the women’s category, Anita Chaudhary stood first, Mamta Chaudhary came second and Kusum Kanwar of Jodhpur Reserve Police won the third position.
