Patanjali lease deed: Rajasthan High Court stays execution

A petition filed by one Rajkumar Singh has challenged the execution of the deed which pertains to the transfer of some 400 bigha land belonging to the temple trust for a period of 12 years to Patanjali Trust at throwaway prices.

The Rajasthan High Court has ordered a stay on the execution of a lease deed between the Shri Govind Devji Temple Trust in Karauli and Patanjali Yoga Peeth Trust. A petition filed by one Rajkumar Singh has challenged the execution of the deed which pertains to the transfer of some 400 bigha land belonging to the temple trust for a period of 12 years to Patanjali Trust at throwaway prices. 

The petition claimed that the said land belonging to the temple was to be used for developing a Yoga Peeth, Gurukul and a centre for manufacturing medicines. The petition argued that no agriculture activity can be taken up on land belong to a temple trust. It also claimed that the persons who have prepared the deed on behalf of the temple trust are not the trustees.

After hearing the arguments, the court ordered an interim stay on execution of the said lease, registry of the land and any construction activity on it till the matter was resolved. The court has also directed the Devasthan Department which is entrusted with the care of temples across state to furnish the details of restoration and conservation work of the temple carried out so far.  The department has been given time till August 17 to furnish the said report. The court has also forbidden the Karauli tehsildar from making any entry in the revenue records pertaining to the land in dispute. The decision was taken by justice SP Sharma. The single-bench served notices on officials of the devasthan department and summon them for hearing.
