Open Theatre adds another spice to Masala Chowk

An Open Theatre was inaugurated by chief minister Vasundhara Raje at Masala Chowk on Sunday. The Open Theatre has been developed by Jaipur Development Authority in collaboration with the Department of Tourism. The aim of the Open Theatre is to promote tourism and encourage cultural and heritage activities in the city. It can accommodate about 500 people.

“We already have tourists visiting the Masala Chowk as it is close to Albert Hall, cultural activities at Open Theatre will encourage more tourism,” said an official from the tourism department. It is to be noted that there already is an Open Theatre in the vicinity at Ravindra Manch, which is currently under construction.

Furthermore, according to officials from JDA, the cost of developing the Open Theatre was around Rs 6 Crore. The officials also informed that while the rates for booking the Open Theatre have not been decided yet, the procedure for the same will be soon uploaded on the JDA website. The inauguration ceremony had a musical evening with Prateek Kuhad, a Delhi-based artist with roots in Jaipur.

The event, which was open for all, was attended by principal secretary, Tourism, Dr Subodh Agrawal, mayor Ashok Lahoti, state BJP president Ashok Parnami, MP Ramchandra Bohra, Jaipur development commissioner Vaibhav Galriya, Padmini Devi from erstwhile royal family.
