Governor Kalyan Singh has set an example by discontinuing the practice of guard of honour.
Singh said that the provision of guard of honour should not be done for him. He has informed the state government about his choice by sending a letter on January 1, 2018. Singh had stopped taking of guard of honour during his visit to Jodhpur, from January 9 to 11.
In the letter written to the state government, Singh asked: “Can the tradition/protocol of guard of honour given as a mark of respect be ended?” The guard of honour is given while entering or leaving the Raj Bhawan and during the visit of different districts in the state. The governor had demanded the complete interpretation of required rules/processes from the Home Ministry along with their comment on the same.
In response to the letter sent by the Governor, the Home Ministry sent its reply on May 11 saying, “As per the wish of the Governor, the tradition of guard of honour being given to Singh can be ended.” On the basis of the comment from the state government, Singh has given his approval in the matter on June 13.
From now onward, there will be no guard of honour for Singh in the state while touring different districts and entering and leaving the Raj Bhawan. Governor Singh has worked towards bringing complete changes in higher education of the state. He also made the universities award lakhs of degrees pending for many years and hold convocation ceremonies regularly in the universities.

Kalyan Singh demanded to raise term of vice chancellors of universities to five years. He asked UGC to frame new guidelines for it.
The governor also laid stress on adding ‘Gandhian Philosophy’ in college curriculum across the country.
He said that there should be no holidays on birth anniversaries of great personalities, instead students should be taught about them.
Singh said term ‘Adhinayak’ in National Anthem should be replaced with Mangal.
He called wearing caps and gowns at convocations as a “sign of slavery and it be replaced by traditional attire.
