Conducting swift arrests on Thursday, the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) took custody of five men allegedly involved in corruption in the National Rural health Mission case. Out of the five men arrested, three are retired officials.

One of the accused is retired Health Director BR Meena. The ACB has taken one of the accused on remand while sending the remaining accused, including Meena, to judicial custody. The accused taken on remand will be subjected to interrogation till 21st July when the ACB will again produce the man in court and might seek to extend the remand.

Along with the retired health director BR Meena, the remaining accused have been identified as Rajendra Sharma and Buddhi Prakash. “Rajendra Sharma had been posted as the accounts officer in health directorate while Buddhi Prakash was posted as assistant accountant in NRHM. The three accused have retired from medical and health department.

The fourth accused has been identified as one Neeraj Jaisawal and the fifth accused is Sunil Dixit. Sunil operates a firm called Dixit computers and also runs a placement company,” officials said.

Notably, the men have been arrested for alleged corruption during recruitment of contractual employees. “In the year 2014-15, contractual employees were to be recruited for seven positions in six districts for the mental health program. At that time, BR Meena, Rajendra Sharma and Buddhi Prakash were a part of the selection committee tasked with selecting the agency for the job. The accusation on the three men is that they passed Sunit Dixit’s agency whereas the certificate of appointed candidates provided by the agency were fake. Moreover, the same agency had appointed personnel in the Mental health program without following the eligibility criteria and rules laid down for appointment and thus appointed non-qualified people at the spot,” officials said.

The accused were produced before court after they were arrested wherein four accused – B R Meena, Buddi Prakash, Rajendra Sharma and Neeraj Jayswal were sent to judicial custody, while the fifth accused Sunit Dixit has been taken on remand.
