If you are found putting banners of your shops on electricity poles to gain easy publicity, then be ready to shell out some money now. Jaipur Discom has decided that it will start charging rent from all the people who are putting up advertisements on electricity poles, transformers etc.
In a meeting conducted recently by Jaipur Discom, in which its senior officers were present, it was decided that the rent will be collected from all such advertisers.
Jaipur Discom will be doing a survey of all such people who are using electricity poles to advertise and thereafter, an amount will be decided that will be levied on such people.
The cables which are not put by electricity company and are using the electricity poles will also have to pay rent. Many people are audacious enough to use the transformer poles also for putting the banners of their firms. All this will now cost, informed the sources in Jaipur Discom.
The decision was taken when the officials were discussing the 5-year plan of discom. Sources informed that it has been observed especially in the Walled City that many banners, posters etc have been put up on the electricity poles.
There is a vast network of Jaipur Discom in Walled City, there are wires dangling from the poles and the advertisers have used this to benefit their business.
Notably, the decision will give some benefit to discom in terms of revenue too as funds in the coffers of discom will increase with charging rent from advertisers. Discom already needs funds to improve its financial position. In 2015, discom had decided to allow mobile companies to use its electricity poles and had decided to charge Rs2,000 per pole as a rental from mobile companies.
