The problem of stray cattle has remained in the city for many years. Crores of rupees are spent every year in the name of cattle catching, but this problem remains the same. The biggest role of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) administration of this problem is itself as political interference and corruption in the municipal corporation are so dominant in the animal husbandry cell of JMC.

The Pink City, which has stepped towards the smart city, is facing the problem of stray cattle on a daily basis, which is also affecting the beauty of the city. These stray cattle became a big problem for common citizen and tourists in the smart city as last year, within a span of six months, two persons including a tourist had died from by stray attack. Stray animals are roaming free on the streets across the city and the JMC has not been able to catch them all.

Their presence on streets also leads to vehicle collisions. A young man was killed in a collision of a stray cattle on the Jamwa Ramgarh road a few days ago. The Swachh Survekshan (clean survey)-2019 is scheduled in this month of January and despite this, the municipal corporation has not initiated any action to catch stray animals. Last year, during the Swachh Survekshan-2018, then mayor Ashok Lahoti directed JMC officials to take strict action against the stray cattle. Due to which, the municipal corporation had caught more than 5000 stray cattle from different parts of the city. According to the sources, there are 30 to 40 complaints related to stray cattle being registered at Jaipur Municipal Corporation’s call centre which are not being disposed of. Deepak Kumar, a resident of Chandpole Bazar, said that there are more than 10 stray cattle in the market. Stray cattle sits on the road all day long and interrupt traffic movement.

Local residents and traders filed the complaints in the JMC offices but no action was taken on the same. Similarly, Rajaram, a resident of Mansarovar, said that for the last six months there has been a large number of stray cattle in Mansarovar. According to the source, even after the Supreme Court and the High Court order, cattle dairies are running in the residential areas of the city. If the common citizen complains, then his complaint is not taken into account.

Officers and employees in the cattle cell of JMC are posted a long time and this has made a chain between animal owners and JMC staff. As animal owners and employees are head to head, the problem of stray animals in the city is not ending.
