Situation at Ninder turned tense on Saturday morning after confrontation between locals and police officials during evacuation drive by Jaipur Development Authority (JDA). The authority officers had reached to evacuate encroachments on ‘Mandir Mafi’ area when the situation heated up. The JDA drive continued despite protest by the local farmers.
According to enforcement officers, it was the locals who first resorted to stone pelting on JDA team and attempts were made to quell them by using ‘mild force’. They denied of any locals being injured during the process. “The evacuation drive was held on ‘Mandir Mafi’ area which is a public property and the farmers have earlier agreed for JDA to take possession of the public land,” a JDA officer said.
It was exactly a week ago that JDA has initiated work on re-survey of the area following an agreement with farmers agitating against land acquisition. The farmers at the time of consensus had agreed to allow JDA to resume work at the public land in the area.
However, after the incident on Saturday, the farmers claimed that the drive was against the spirit of the agreement.
“This is a willful attempt to off-track the survey process. The JDA officials went on offensive and assaulted women and children during the drive. We are being forced to hold agitation,” said Nagendra Singh Shekhawat, leader of the agitating farmers.
The authority officers though denied the allegations. “The locals as a strategy kept women members in front when they began pelting stones on the JDA team. We have identified few such elements who have triggered the incident and legal action will be taken against them accordingly,” says Rahul Jain, SP JDA enforcement squad.
Apparently, the Ninder area is staring into another farmer agitation. Meetings continued till late night between the farmer groups to decide on future action plan. Though many of them were of the opinion to let the survey work commence irrespective of the Saturday’s incident.
