Pradesh Congress Chief Sachin Pilot said his aim is to get the Congress back to power in Rajasthan, a responsibility for which he was chosen after the electoral defeat in 2013. In the last Assembly elections the Congress party was reduced to just 21 seats, a historical defeat ever received post Independence that saw the ouster of Ashok Gehlot government.

Sachin Pilot, while talking to scribes on Thursday after returning from Australia tour said he was chosen to lead the party at a time when its tally was lowest. He said that the responsibility of reviving the state unit was handed over to him by Congress president Rahul Gandhi himself.

“My goal is clear. Like in Mahabharata, Arjun’s sole concentration was to strike the fish’s eye, my job is also cut out. My goal is to form the Congress government in state,” Pilot told a battery of media persons in Jaipur.

Without naming any leader the PCC chief said, “At that time Rahul Gandhi ji chose me. This is a party of not any individual, but everyone who has contributed towards its growth,” said Pilot at PCC office in Jaipur.

It is worth mentioning that in 2013 assembly polls when Gehlot was in power, the Congress had faced its biggest poll debacle in Rajasthan. Pilot steered clear of taking any potshots at former chief minister Ashok Gehlot who is not missing any opportunity to remind the partyworkers that he is not far from Rajasthan and its politics.

“Our final goal must be to see that the Congress forms the government in state. Big and small leaders in the party must remember we achieved so much because of the party. I was made MP at the age of 25 and a Union minister at 31 years of age. When I turned 35, I was asked to head the party in state,” Pilot said while replying to those who on several occasions have indirectly questioned his potential, against the backdrop of experience in politics.

Meanwhile, Pilot also took a jibe at chief minister Vasundhara Raje on her proposed Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra. He asked why she feels pride in Rajasthan which in her rule has lagged behind in every sector.

“Instead of holding a rally of BJP workers who will clap during her speech, she must have establish dialogues with people. Our party workers in last four years worked for the common man and shared their griefs,” said Pilot.

CM Vasundhara Raje would be kicking off her yatra showcasing the works done by her government and the assistance doled out to beneficiaries of various schemes in an extensive tour of the state.

Pilot has previously criticised the yatra claiming it to be a political yatra which was being funded by the government. He had also said that the state machinery is being used to make the yatra a success ahead of polls.
