Muay Thai: Jaipur lads set to represent India in Thailand

At a time when fascination amongst teenagers and youths is increasing for sports like football, kabaddi and cricket due to its mass awareness, two teenagers from Jaipur have chosen to play a sport which is yet to get a limelight. 

The sport – Muay Thai – a combat sport is one of the most dangerous sports to play as it includes punches, kicks and use of elbows and even knee to thrash your opponent.

Meet Naman Sharma and Sanskar Kabra, two teenagers from Jaipur who are part of the Indian Team taking part in the International Muay Thai Championship organised by International Muay-Thai Federation and Government of Thailand.

The tournament will be played from August 1-10 August in Bangkok. “Naman and Sanskar are part of sixteen member Indian Team that includes ten boys and six girls. Naman will fight in the 50-kilogram category and Sanskar will fight in the 65-kilogram category. They are training for the tournament for the past two years,” said Sriram Choudhary, coach of Naman and Sanskar.

Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and has gained massive popularity worldwide in the past decade. Known as the Art of Eight Limbs, the martial art is peculiar as it uses a combination use of fists, elbows, knees and shins.

“They are students of class ninth and have a good chance in bagging a medal in the tournament,” said Harendra Singh Gehlot, President – Rajasthan Muay Thai Association.
