Urban Development Minister Shrichand Kripalani, unhappy with the city’s waste disposal and garbage collection, trained his guns at Jaipur Mayor Ashok Lahoti.

During a workshop organised by the directorate of local bodies (DLB) on Monday for orientation of the upcoming cleanliness survey-2018, Kripalani in his inaugural address targeted Lahoti. Kripalani said that Bharatpur's mayor and commissioner cleaned Bharatpur in a day. The Bharatpur Mayor wears simple clothes like a villager but he did what ‘suited-booted’ Ashok, could not do. He openly challenged mayor Lahoti that if he can make Jaipur number one in the upcoming cleanliness survey, he will quit his ministerial post for him. The survey will be conducted in 4,041 cities across the country. UDH minister also took aim at the luxurious chamber of Lahoti at Jaipur Municipal Corporation.

He said that “the chamber of Lahoti is better than my chamber.”

During the workshop, Kripalani took to task officers and political heads of the urban body for failing in ODF targets. “There is not a single ward in the state's 28 bodies which have become ODF,” Kripalani said, announcing the award for urban bodies for cleanliness. Kripalani said that the award will be given to the bodies having outstanding work in different schemes including cleanliness. Prior to this, Chief Secretary (LSG) Manjit Singh said that the bodies should give priority to six central funded schemes. The LED light project is very good. Director Local Bodies Pawan Arora said that the cleaning period to meet the goal of open defecation will no longer be extended.
