Mortal remains of 3 jawans killed in avalanche arrive

The deceased have been identified as Havaldar Kamlesh Singh, Sepoy Rajendra and Naik Balveer of the 21 Rajput unit of the Indian Army.

The mortal remains of three jawans, who died in an avalanche in Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir, were brought to their native places by the Army. All the three jawans hailed from Rajasthan.

The deceased have been identified as Havaldar Kamlesh Singh, Sepoy Rajendra and Naik Balveer of the 21 Rajput unit of the Indian Army.

Havaldar Singh (39) had joined the Army in 1999 and hailed from Mahara Gujarwas village located in Khetri tehsil of Jhunjhunu district. He is survived by his wife and three children. Sepoy Balveer (31) was from Anjari village in Deeg tehsil of Bharatpur and had donned the uniform in 2003. Sepoy Rajendra (24) had joined the Army in 2012 and belonged to Maithna village in Kathumar tehsil of Alwar district.

A service aircraft, carrying the mortal remains of the three jawans, landed in Jaipur at around 6.30pm from Srinagar. In Jaipur, the Army used its helicopter and vehicles to take the remains to the native places of three jawans.

The remains reached late in the night as vehicles carrying bodies were stopped at many places so that people can pay their tributes to them. They also raised slogans in praise of the deceased jawans The final rites are expected to be performed on Sunday.

Earlier in Srinagar, Army paid floral tributes to three jawans in a solemn ceremony at Badamibagh Cantonment. Lt Gen A K Bhatt, Corps Commander, Chinar Corps, and all ranks paid homage to them, an army spokesman said. He said the three valiant soldiers braved all odds with exemplary commitment and dedication to duty and made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the motherland.
