Former minister of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government under prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, Arun Shourie alleged the present NDA government for creating an atmosphere of ‘intolerance’. Shourie was in Jaipur to address an intellectual platform ‘Jaipur Parisamvad’ on Sunday, talking to the media before the program he asked media to speak against the external influence.

“Over the past three-four years, Modi-Shah have created an atmosphere of intolerance, this allows others to behave in a similar manner,” Shourie held prime minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah as one unit responsible for gagging media.

An economist, Shourie had gained appreciation as a journalist for his write-ups during the emergency period. He was, however, also displeased with the absence of ‘anti-establishment’ news from media channels and newspapers. “It is for us media persons to be blamed for the situation. We need to unite against the attempts to suppress media voices,” he added.

While he alleged the media for reporting less, he admitted that he does not read many of the newspapers himself. Shourie has been known for his differences with the prime minister Narendra Modi and present BJP leadership, it has been on several occasions that he had blatantly raised allegations on the party and its government. At Jaipur too, he went after the BJP on issues from demonetization, Ram Mandir and cow vigilantes.

“Demonetization has been the biggest money laundering scam and the Jan Dhan accounts got used to transit Rs42,000 crore. A cooperative bank associated with Amit Shah has also exchanged old currency notes of several hundred crore rupees,” he said while addressing a gathering at the Parisamvad.   Speaking over Ram Mandir and Cow protection, he raised the incident of Hingonia Goshala where hundreds of cows had died due to alleged mismanagement.

COW & RAM MANDIR
