In a twist, Rajasthan state Assembly speaker Kailash Meghwal on Wednesday rejected the resignation of independent MLA Rajkumar Sharma, who had submitted his resignation on Monday. He had resigned as a protest against the Rajasthan government's handling of the doctors' strike.

The rejection was communicated by Assembly secretary, Prithvi Singh. According to sources in the Assembly, "Sharma had submitted a three-page resignation with a detailed account of the strike. He had demanded the health minister's resignation and written in the end that he 'proposes' his resignation," adding, "To tender a resignation one must clearly write so. Not propose it. This gave the speaker a technical ground to reject it."

Meanwhile, Health minister Kalicharan Saraf said, "I reiterate what I said earlier. The resignation was a publicity stunt. Those who understand the working of the Assembly know resignations are a two-line affair. It was bound to be rejected."
