For the first time, the government has decided to give mid-term claims to the farmers insured under the Prime Minister Crop Insurance scheme. The agriculture department has given its approval for the claim. The relief will now be given to the farmers of Jalore, Sirohi, Barmer and Pali.
Notably, recently these four districts of the state were affected with excessive rainfall and the farmers had to bear huge losses during the rains between July 22 to July 30. They were facing hardships and were in need of relief . Therefore, it has been decided that the farmers will be extended mid-term relief.
It is learned that chief minister Vasundhara Raje had directed agriculture minister Prabhulal Saini regarding this and subsequently, the entire exercise was undertaken and approval of Rs105 crore and 42 lakh as claim was given by the department of agriculture.
Giving the information, Saini said that the crops which suffered more than 50% of damage are being given 25% amount of premium and the rest of the amount will be paid after crop cutting.
As per the estimate, in these four districts crops in more than 14 lakh hectares of area was affected due to excessive rainfall. Earlier, the three insurance companies had issued about Rs10 lakh and 62 thousand policies in these four districts.
Now as per the directions, farmers of Barmer will get mid term claim of Rs60 crore and 20 lakhs, Sirohi farmers will get claim of Rs31 crore and 38 lakhs while the farmers of Pali and Jalore will get mid-term claim of Rs42 crore.
