Good Samaritans in the city have come up with an innovative solution to keep the city clean and eradicate its garbage depots. They have been undertaking religious rituals at the site of garbage dumps to remove trash from the city.

However, Mayor Ashok Lahoti has a different take on the city’s cleanliness: He has been heaping praises on municipal employees for reducing garbage depots in the city.

According to municipal records, there are 3,000 authorized garbage depots in the city. Garbage depots are being removed in the city for preparing it for Swachh Survekshan-2018(clean survey).

Mayor Ashok Lahoti claims that 2,900 garbage depots among the 3,000 have been removed from Jaipur.

Now, there are only 100 garbage depots left in the city. The Mayor says that with the efforts of the municipal corporation administration, the garbage depots can be removed from the city. But the truth is that the city dwellers want to remove the garbage depot themselves. People had been struggling to get rid of the garbage depots. But this innovative solution seems to be doing the trick.

Even after repeated complaints in the municipal corporation of garbage pile-up, the people were left high and dry. A recent example of a puja being held was in the Bramhpuri area. To remove three garbage depots, the public had to resort to religious ceremonies.

There was a garbage depot at the intersection in front of the Navagrah temple in Bramhpuri and it existed for several years.

Municipal employees also collected garbage from the streets and put them on that crossing. Due to the garbage depot, there was a garrison in front of the temple and there was a possibility of an accident at the crossroads. About three months ago, people cleared the crossroads to get rid of the garbage depot and started the Akhand Ramayana Path’there. This Ramayana Path lasted for one month and people removed the garbage depot.

After the ceremony, there was no garbage. Hence, this strategy helped in removing trash from the area.

After this experiment, this path was adopted for the removal of two garbage depots located in Brahmpuri Khurra. For the past one month, local people have kept a picture of Lord Rama in tents in both places. So, people are not dumping waste there. Also, the CCTV cameras are monitoring the area. The garbage depot was removed with collaboration of the local people in the Rajpark area. There was another garbage depot near Panchavati Circle.

Locals constructed a wall at the place of the garbage depot. They painted the walls and spruced up the area.
