Few years back, Meena leader Dr Kirodi Lal Meena and Jat leader Hanuman Beniwal had joined their hands together against the BJP government.

They were mobilising farmers and community members against the policies of the government and swearing in to uproot the Raje government. But just 8 months before, Meena turns his coat. He adorns saffron leaving behind a strong rumour that Beniwal will soon follow suit. But putting rest to all speculations, Beniwal categorically says that he will not join BJP at any cost.

“There is no question. I will organise Hunkar rally at Sikar followed by another one at Jaipur where I will announce formation of a new party,” he said.

But without Meena, Beniwal would be a lone fighter who can win his seat as an independent candidate but there are little chances that he can make a mark beyond that.

Meena, who fell out with Vasundhara Raje over Gurjar-Meena clashes protesting the Gurjar quota, ganged up with other disgruntled BJP MLA Hanuman Beniwal who also left the party to form third front in the state. They together travelled various parts of the state mobilising people against the BJP government. In recent times, they were seen sharing platform with another BJP disgruntled MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari, raising possibilities of a third front which could give tough fight in pockets where they have considerable individual influences. The combination of Meena-Jat-Brahmin could have made serious dents in the vote-bank of BJP as well as Congress, especially in Meena dominated eastern Rajasthan, Beniwal pocket borough Nagaur and Ghanshyam Tiwari’s Sikar districts.

But now that Meena has fallen apart, the possibility of third front has also gone for a toss. His move has not gone down well with Meena supporters. They are disappointed over the fact that Meena, who stood against BJP for bringing some change in the political horizons, has gone back after 9 years of toil.

“A few days back he was campaigning with Hanuman Beniwal in the western Rajasthan and now he has suddenly realised that he cannot win the elections alone that’s why he has joined BJP so that his political career doesn’t end. There are many criminal cases in which he is wanted and is hoping that after joining the party the cases will be removed. He is habitual of changing parties nobody knows he may join Congress before the elections before code of conduct gets into place,” said Ramesh, Sapotra MLA.
