Manvendra Singh, a legislator from Rajasthan's Sheo who quit the BJP recently, is likely to contest the parliamentary seat of Barmer-Jaisalmer in the general elections due next year. This is the same seat which his father and former Union minister Jaswant Singh had wished to contest in 2014 general elections and was denied a ticket by the BJP.

Speaking to DNA, Manvendra said he hasn't decided as to which party he shall join after his separation with the BJP.

Manvendra contesting the general elections is in line with his call for Rajputs and other communities of Marwar to unite against the BJP. The Swabhiman rally in Pachpadra was designed to vindicate his father's humiliation at the party's hand in 2014.

His aides in Jaisalmer and Barmer are rooting for his wife Chitra Singh to contest the Sheo seat, which in the event he decides to contest the general elections, would fall vacant.

"His wife was present in all public meetings in the build-up to the Swabhimaan rally on Saturday," a Manvendra's aide said. In fact, his wife had planned and executed the door-to-door public outreach campaign for Manvendra, he added. He was introducing his wife as a public figure ahead of the big day where he announced his separation from the BJP.

Meanwhile, the BJP is yet to take a decision on Manvendra's act of quitting the party. He is a second legislator who has quit the party in the state in the last three months. Earlier, Jaipur MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari had taken the extreme step of quitting the party. Sources said that state BJP in-charge and national vice president Avinash Rai Khanna will arrive in Jaipur on Tuesday. "He will discuss with the state leaders about Manvendra and Tiwari," a aprty office bearer said.

State BJP president Madan Lal Saini on Monday said he didn't receive the resignations of either Tiwari or Manvendra. Suring his visit to Churu, he said, "I have not received their resignations so far. When the resignations land with me, then we shall see. State in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna told DNA, "I am coming to Jaipur tomorrow. I will talk to the state leaders about Manvendra."
